Alma Chapter 16

16:5 - "...now Zoram and his two sons, knowing that Alma was high priest over the church, and having heard that he had the spirit of prophecy, therefore they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go into the wilderness in search of their brethren, who had been taken captive by the Lamanites..."
Zoram knew that Alma had the spirit of prophecy, so he went to him to see where the Lamanites would go.  I like this story because it shows that we can receive revelation - even in areas not necessarily associated with "spiritual" areas.  The Lord does not want us to fail, and sometimes all we need to do is to simply ask.

16:16 - "...and there was no inequality among them..."
There was no inequality because they were prepared to hear the word and apply it.
As we come to understand more fully the doctrines of the gospel, the more that we will look at others as our equals, and wish to lift them up along with us.

16:16-18 - "...the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming — that they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving, and go on to destruction, but that they might receive the word with joy..."
One of the blessings that the people received as a result of their faith was an increase of the Spirit, which prepared them to receive more of the Word.
If we want to receive more of the Word of God, we need to act in faith on what we have already received and invite the Spirit into our lives so we can be prepared to receive more.
